In case you missed the recent solar eclipse and you happen to be in the Pacific Rim you’ll have a chance to see a total lunar eclipse on April 4th. This year on November 3 the start of the Hindu festival of Diwali coincides with a solar eclipse. It’s appropriate perhaps that this ‘festival of lights’ will begin with the concealing and revealing of our brightest light. Regrettably most Hindus will not see this as the eclipse will occur mainly over the Atlantic and West Africa. Among the national days in November, Cambodians celebrate their Independence Day on November 9th, commemorating independence from France in 1953. In the intervening years involvement in the Vietnam War and the Khmer Rouge regime have provided little to celebrate but today the country enjoys a measure of stability as a multiparty democracy under a constitutional monarchy.
