Peru: Flag and Map T-Shirts & Other Gifts

Peru is located in western South America and is home to nearly 30 million people, most of whom speak Spanish, although significant numbers speak Quechua and other native languages. People first inhabited this area at least 11,000 years ago and around 3000 BC gave rise to one of the oldest known complex societies in the Americas, the Norte Chico. Many significant cultures followed this before the rise of the Inca empire in the 15th century. That empire was conquered by the Spanish in 1532, who ruled until Peru gained independence in 1824, which is celebrated on July 28-29. Other important dates in Peru include: Año Nuevo (Jan 1), Pascua (varies), Día del Trabajo (May 1) and Navidad (Dec 25).
