Guyane

Guyane or French Guiana lies on the northern coast of South America and as of 2008 was home to just over 200,000 inhabitants. French is the official language but numerous regional languages are also recognized. The region was home to a number of Native American peoples when the French began to establish settlements in the 17th century. Guyane became an overseas département of France in 1946 on Mar 19.
