The Sahrawi flag was first adopted on Feb 27, 1976 and comprises three horizontal bands, colored (from top to bottom) black, white and green, plus a red triangle at the hoist and a red star and crescent in the center. Western Sahara is situated in western Africa on the Atlantic coast and lies at the western end of the Sahara Desert. The outline of the map is elongated and irregular and is combined here with the bold colors of the flag to create striking and distinctive designs for Sahrawi national mementos.
