Guyana: Flag and Map T-Shirts & Other Gifts

Guyana lies on the northern coast of South America and as of 2008 was home to just under 800,000 inhabitants. English is the official language but several regional languages are also recognized. The region had already been inhabited for thousands of years by the time the Dutch arrived in the early 17th century when they encountered Arawak and Carib inhabitants. Control of Guyana switched between a number of European nations before independence was gained, from Britain, in 1966 on May 26. Other important dates in Guyana include: New Year's Day (Jan 1), Republic Day (Feb 23), Easter (varies), Labour Day (May 1), Deepavali (varies) and Christmas Day (Dec 25).
