2012 Summer Olympics: GDP Adjusted Performance Ranking

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games being held in London and other parts of the UK are finally under way, which gives us the opportunity for a little more fun with a GDP adjusted national performance ranking based on the official medals table. Our GDP adjusted ranking shown below is intended to level the playing field between large wealthy nations and smaller less wealthy ones. The ranking algorithm assesses the value of the medals won and then adjusts this value according to the square root of national GDP, a factor that we find achieves the most competitive ranking. With the traditional medals table you have a pretty safe bet as to which nation is going to come top but with our GDP adjusted ranking almost any nation could win. Check here as the games progress to see how well your nation is performing.
