Chile: Flag and Map T-Shirts & Other Gifts

Chile comprises a very elongated strip of land between the Andes and the Pacific and as of 2010 is home to more than 17 million, mostly Spanish-speaking, people. Human settlement of the area began some 14,000 years ago and notable prehispanic cultures included the Mapuche who strongly resisted subjugation by the Incas in the 15th century and Europeans from the 16th century. Nevertheless European culture prevailed under Spanish rule, which ended in 1818. Important dates in Chile include: Año Nuevo (Jan 1), Viernes Santo and Sábado Santo (vary), Día del Trabajo (May 1), Día de la Raza (Oct 11) and Navidad (Dec 25).
