Brazil: Flag and Map T-Shirts & Other Gifts

Brazil is the fifth most populous country in the world with over 190 million people as of 2010, most of whom speak Portuguese. The region has probably been inhabited for 8000 years but with no evidence of city states or extended empires prior to the arrival of Europeans from 1500. European culture subsumed the semi-nomadic tribal culture that it encountered, although in 2007 it was estimated that there remained as many as 67 uncontacted tribes in Brazil. Brazil's Portuguese colonial heritage distinguishes it from it's mostly Spanish speaking neighbors. Independence from Portugal was achieved in 1822 and is celebrated on September 7. Other important dates in the Brazil include: Ano Novo (Jan 1), Carnaval (varies), Páscoa (varies), Dia do Trabalho (May 1), Dia dos Namorados (Jun 12) and Natal (Dec 25).
